Ambassador Lassen marks 32 years partnership with Al-Kafaàt
Ambassador Christina Lassen, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon, visited today the Campus of Al-Kafaat in Ain Saadeh that offers university education and professional training.
This was an opportunity for Ambassador Lassen to visit the different training schools of the campus which was established in 1993 in partnership with the European Commission, and European organisations partners to the Al-Kafaat Foundation. The schools for training on printing, industrial food production, electronics, jewelry, audiovisual and other fields allow young people to acquire the necessary skills to access the labour market.
Ambassador Lassen attended a ceremony to award the Al-Kafaat University Prize to it student film director Roudy Doumit, who won the Lebanese Students Best Short Film Prize at the European Film Festival 2016 for his short film “Reconnect”. Roudy Doumit was invited by the Festival to the Oberhausen International Short Film Festival in Germany in May 2016. The AKU prize of $1,500 was handed over to the winner by AKU President Fathi Ouaida and the Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts Choucri Anis Fakhoury, while Ambassador Lassen handed over to him the AKU trophy.
Mr. Choukry Anis Fakhoury highlighted the amazing performances of the graduates of the School of Audiovisual in all international film festivals, ever since the inception of the School in 1999.
Dr Fathi Ouaida said that art was at the heart of communication and dialogue between cultures, and that there was no better place than a university to grow that closeness between communities.
Ambassador Lassen said: "We believe that education is the best investment one can do. It provides the very foundation upon which new generations of European and Lebanese citizens will develop." "The EU has made it easier and more attractive for people from their counties, including citizens of Lebanon, to study or do research in Europe. We are supporting these exchange programmes and also other programmes that foster young people’s development, courage and creativity. The competition at the European Film Festival is just one example."
A reception prepared by the Al-Kafaàt catering students followed during which Ambassador Lassen and the Director General of the Al-Kafaàt Foundation Ramzi Choueiri cut a cake, marking a 32-year partnership between the Foundation and the European Commission.
